Original Owner: John R. Davis (1848-1885)
John R. Davis (1817-1885) was the founder and first president of the Winnebago Paper Mill. He eventually passed the company onto his son William. John was born in Wales in 1817 and lived in both Canada and New York before finally coming to Wisconsin in 1848 where he ran a carriage (wagon) factory in Milwaukee. He settled in Neenah in 1847 and in 1852, he purchased a flouring mill from the government. When a fire destroyed the mill, Davis started the Winnebago Paper Mill. John was a village of Neenah president and alderman for the city. Mr. and Mrs. Davis had six children.
Myra Davis Babcock (1885-1919)
Myra Davis Babcock and her husband Charles A Babcock came into possession of the house after her father died in 1885. Myra made the decision to change the address to 415 E Wisconsin Ave. Previously it was 413 E Wisconsin Ave, but after her fathers death and other unsettling incidents, Mrs. Davis decided it was best to make the address change.
Milsom Babcock Mory (1919-1962)
Milsom Babcock Mory took ownership of the house through an Affidavit of Identity in 1962 and of Adverse Possession. This means that Mrs. Mory was taking care of the house for years without it being in her name. There are documents that help to show chain of possession. Milsom was a daughter of Charles and Myra Babcock.
